If you're serious about "stable", use latest 21.4. 21.5 does not
guarantee backward compatibility, although some of us occasionally
yell when some commit violates our sensibilities. :-)
Otherwise I'd use Mercurial tip 2-3 days after the most recent commit.
On the minus-not-so-bad side, anything deep enough to escape those 2-3
days got by our test suite anyway. On the plus side, you're likely to
pick up increased GNU compatibility.
There's also the xemacs-beta repo, which I push to with a few days
delay, after building and running once.
