I think it's time you bit the bullet and learned to use preview-latex
efficiently. That's probably a better use of your summer "fooling
around with software" time.
Ok, but what I don't understand is:
t_ST:=time needed to save the buffer
t_ST(not-loaded x-symbol)< t_ST(loaded x-symbol, but disabled)<
t_ST(loaded x-symbol,enabled)
I don't know, either. There are lots of possibilities, given how
invasive the x-symbol code is.
