I think Jamie's point is that if *Jamie* feels blindsided by
undocumented
non-backward-combatable changes, then the more casual user will be in well
over their head, and we've severely dropped the ball.
I think in defense of the change, there were also a great many users who
found the status quo unintelligable on windows. I believe the change was
partly made to satisfy dumber users who would not know how to get the
behavior they wanted.
I tend to agree that since this class of user is probably only on windows
then the defaults should be different for X.
