Hello XEmacs Developers,
I have put the beta version of all XEmacs manuals onto our master
websites a little while back.
They are reachable at
http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/index.html
http://www.dk.xemacs.org/Documentation/index.html
http://www.us.xemacs.org/Documentation/index.html
and the mirrors as well.
Some questions come to mind for which I would like to solicit your
input:
Do the manuals work for you?
Have you noticed any breakage in them?
At this point I am aware of missing image files for xemacs-faq.html:
/documentation/beta/html/xemacs-faq_2.html
had 6 broken links
/documentation/beta/html/cthomp.jpeg
/documentation/beta/html/hniksic.jpeg
/documentation/beta/html/jwz.gif
/documentation/beta/html/mrb.jpeg
/documentation/beta/html/steve.gif
/documentation/beta/html/wing.gif
I could have fixed these, but the general question is how to approach
this problem. Should some files move from the xemacs core module to
the xemacsweb module? Should the xemacs website consist of modules
XEmacs/xemacsweb and XEmacs/xemacs/etc?
The big questions I can't decide on are these:
How many sets of manuals should we have online?
o stable and gamma and beta
o only beta
o only stable
At this point
http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/beta takes up
ca. 18000KB.
Should we use symbolic names as suggested above?
Should we put them under specific version number directories like
http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/21.1.14/
to make references to them specific (beta was 21.2 yesterday and is
21.5 today)?
Should we only use major.minor to increase the manual's lifetime and
just update to latest on that branch from time to time?
e.g.
http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/21.1/
Thanks in advance for your valued feedback,
Adrian
