That's how big the main frame is/was on my Solaris machine at work which has a higher resolution display and can thus display more lines with the given font/font size. My experience suggests that when you create a new frame it gets the same dimensions as whatever other frame is already displayed. I'm headed to work with my laptop now. If I get a few minutes today I'll try to perform a couple quick experiments.
