But I don't think this is related to the image itself. Last time I
checked, I was also getting problems with display-time in the modeline.
Besides, the problem was somewhat erratic (felt like GC problem).
In order to maximize the chances of reproduction, you should customize
your default face so that it uses the pixmap as soon as possible.
