There have been lots of updates and fixes since 21.1, and I think there were some gnuclient related fixes too (but don't quote me on that). Don't forget to check `./configure --help' as some of the configure options have changed since 21.1. This looks incredibly suspect. What this is saying is that when you load `gnuserv' (the server for gnuclient), you are _*NOT*_ loading the one that ships with XEmacs, but the one you have in `/users/ekr/elisp'. Try _not_ adding `/users/ekr/elisp' to your load-path.
