| Having by chance been hit by this yesterday evening, I concur: it's a
| bug, and we should treat it as such.
So it's a bug for the X release. It should still be flagged as I suggested
for the win32 release, since it's a backwards incompatible change.
In /general/ I like changes of default behaviour if it benefits new users,
as it makes introducing new people to XEmacs easier.

ps: I'd also like more features to be turned on by default when installed,
such as savehist and recent-files, but I guess there are both technical and
social problems with this; it's just annoying seeing people going forever
without using such features because they didn't know they were there
