IMO it should be a string. For the moment I have to
take this from newcomment.el:
;; comment-padding
(unless comment-padding (setq comment-padding 0))
(when (integerp comment-padding) (setq comment-padding
(make-string comment-padding ? )))
Attached a fixed comment.el
Thanks that seems now to work for latex files.
