Invalid operation after package upgrade

I'd like to upgrade some packages, so I listed them (with Tools|Packages|List and Install), selected a few, pressed x and confirmed. It seems that the first selected package downloads and installs OK, but then the process stops on "Invalid operation: Selecting deleted or non-existent buffer" (see Recent messages below - after the first failure, I restarted XEmacs and tried again, making sure I wasn't selecting any buffers). I see no problem with the download - as far as I can say, the package has been upgraded.
