[Bug: 21.5-b22] Endless loop when choosing theme from color-theme.el

i succeded in reproducing your bug...
when XEmacs was in an endless loop, i used top to monitor the
processes --- i was somehow surprised seeing that the most active
process was by far XFree86
i had a sort of clue from deep unconscious and iconified/deiconified
XEmacs, and voila', the color theme was there!
i hope that what i found is reproducible and may help real bug
