@OP, could you please have a look at the result of the command
xlsfonts -fn '-adobe-courier*'
on my desktop PC, it is a 226 elements list
on my notebook, with one of the "modern desktop systems", i have
xlsfonts: pattern "adobe-courier*" unmatched
if yours is a "modern desktop system" you can still build xemacs, if
you either
- install the relevant bitmaps fonts, the packages are named xfonts-*
- build xemacs with xft/fontconfig support; read the output of
configure --help for the details, and take notice that you must
enable mule by giving the option "--with-mule" to configure
otherwise fontconfiv won't work...
