VM-BUG: bugs everywhere

Hi, sorry for coming back so late ... I had a disk crash, a lot of work and other higher priority tasks so did not finish putting in of VM 8.0.10 into CVS. While I still do not have much time these days I will try to address those bugs reported by Stephen and others. And hey Stephen, VM 8 is not that bad, there is a bunch of people running successfully, but you are not the standard user ;-) Thanks for all the reports and the fixes!
