Now that the discussion is dying down, I'll put in my two cents: I
inherited an ugly old hack from my sysadmin when I started using
Emacs, and got bit when I switched to XEmacs, and then was very
pleased to discover a well-defined, well-named interface like
`delete-key-deletes-forward'.
So I agree with everything Per says about hacks and the NEWS file;
and I'd suggest putting a note in the startup message, as well.
