The implementation was a first pass :) I think buffers-tab-omit-function
should be set to something cleverer than
buffers-menu-omit-invisible-buffers. If anyone wants to code this, be my
guest. I'd really like to try and focus on the C display code as there are
still a few bugs (+ X support in the works). gutter-items.el is just lisp
which most people can hack :)
I would guess you probably want to group buffers like the buffer menu does
and then show the group of the most recently selected buffer.
i.e. so if you are working with C files you see all the .h and .c files,
lisp files and you see all the .el's etc.
