I'm not going to say don't do it, but I wouldn't if I were you. Three
quick reasons that I can think of:
1) We've always had the GNU requirement for building
packages.
2) The GNU tools are readily available for most (if not all)
the platforms that XEmacs supports.
3) find ./ -type f -regex \
".*\(Local\|XEmacs\|iterate\)\.rules.*\|.*Makefile" | wc -l
=> 148
