Well, FFI is nice but it is really the curl part I'm most
interested
in. So if FFI is hard I could settle for libcurl integration so that
we could use the power and portability of curl for our file transfer
needs.
FFI is only "hard" in that it often doesn't come pre-installed with the
major distros so the user is forced to add it later. If you guys find a
way to either solve that, or greatly reduce the impact, well then you
are home free. :-)
Yes, you could certainly opt for integrating just libcurl and you'll
have a really cool and beneficial new feature. Note the singularity
there. Or...
Go the FFI route and the new features are limitless.
I can also attest that those new features will be easier and quicker to
implement when doing so via FFI. Sometimes the resulting elisp even
runs faster than the equivalent C.
