defaults. Martin made a big deal trying to guess as good as possible what the
user wants, not only what the system's default is.
Moreover it runs xmkmf to figure out where X. We have (or used to
have) our own private X in /usr/local/X11 and it picked it up
perfectly.
So if your xmkmf/imake install it is not broken all is well. The problem is
when to detect broken xmkmf/imake installs and then try to do the
right thing.
