I have run into other software that will not build with gcc 4.01 (the
stock Apple gcc). However, so far, Apple's gcc-4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build
5531) has worked for those builds (one of which was sendmail). I had to
get the source from Apple ADC and build it "the Apple way."
I have no idea whether this would affect the outcome under the Carbon
build. Someone familiar with Xcode could try resetting the compiler or
the SDK. (Both gcc-4.0.1 and gcc-4.2.1 on 10.5.1 build XEmacs 21.5.28b
with X.org libraries--if you upgrade to the latest X11.app and related
code from freedesktop:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~jeremyhu/x11-apple/).

Okay. We haven’t actually had any successful build reports from 10.5 users
at all. (I’m on 10.4, and hadn’t planned on upgrading; Malcolm Purvis has
10.5, but reported another error when building.) Any build fix from you
would be welcome.
