I happen to have a directory named xemacs in my home
directory. I suspect this causes some confusion as
well. When I cd to another location the problem
described above goes away.
For the record, given this side effect, I'm not at all
satisfied with the solution of configuring with
--pdump. It did get me up and running, but it's a
workaround at best.
