crash in VM with strange smiley

[current 21.2 (cvs upd earlier this afternoon)] when I read the attached msg in VM with smiley's turned on, i.e. (require 'messagexmas) (require 'smiley) (add-hook 'vm-select-message-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-mode-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-update-hook 'smiley-buffer) (add-hook 'vm-summary-redo-hook 'smiley-buffer) xemacs dies - when running under gdb I just get the now-familiar: Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. kill () at engine.c:648 648 engine.c: No such file or directory. (gdb) where #0 kill () at engine.c:648 #1 0x41531ac in raise () at iconv_converter.c:22087 if I comment out this line: (add-hook 'vm-select-message-hook 'smiley-buffer) or delete the line with all the carats in it, xemacs is happy -- John A.
