I hadn't really noticed a problem with this until recently. Now,
every time I use w3, I notice *lots* of images that don't load since they
are GIF files.
In what way are we in collision with the patent? If using GIFReader,
XEmacs doesn't contain code that violates the patent, it's really an issue
with the GIFReader author, correct? If nothing else, can the patch to
enable GIF be made available with a large disclaimer about how many laws
are being broken? I'm thinking of something along the lines of what many
security packages do for RSA/DES encryption code.
