[Bug: 21.4.12] gnuclient dies on Cygwin

================================================================ Dear Bug Team! When running gnuserv/gnuclient on Cygwin, gnuclient dies after a short while and then takes gnuserv with it. After investigating the problem, I tried the following patch which helped. I haven't seen gnuclient die anymore. Gnuclient died with the messages Connection reset by peer and unable to read the reply from the server. And when clicking "Done" or typing C-x # in the XEmacs buffer that was created on behalf of gnuclient, gnuserv produced the message Connection aborted.
