I think I know what the problem is. The tab size is set based on the
default font. If you make the font taller than hte size of the tab the tabs
try to draw inside the emacs frame and hence you get an endless cycle of
expose/repaint. I had hoped that clipping would solve this - but maybe the
tab widget isn't very well behaved. This can be fixed by resizing the tab
when the font size changes....
