The whole face-creation policy and its supporting code needs to be
rethought. Too many packages have their own versions of "emphasized"
and similar common faces. Packages like Gnus have huge suites of
faces that could easily be reused, but nobody does. I wonder if this
could be at least partially alleviated by making a point of
autoloading at least the commonly reusable faces?
Then there's the domain/locale feature of specifiers that rarely gets
used. It _should_ allow a messaging agent like Gnus to specify a spec
for emphasized text that is different in summaries and message
buffers, or different between the message buffer and an extent
containing a citation, but nobody ever uses it that way.
