I don't know to what extent fvwm does fancy redisplay. Another place
to look would be the MagicPoint code http://www.mew.org/MagicPoint/,
although I'm not sure they do anything particularly fancy either.
One advantage to the MagicPoint code is that I know that swallowing
windows can help crash MagicPoint, so there's definitely some "don't
do it this way" educational value. ;-)
