But these lists are also the only record we have of our "design
process" (if I may dignify it with that term). All too often our
archives read like the wizard agreeing with the mage, and the poor
sorceror's apprentices never do figure out what it is they're supposed
to be sweeping up.... And the code is worse. Doesn't hurt to be
excessively explicit.

Uhm. Let's not mess with that code until after the release.[1] There's
other stuff I want to do with the startup process (like get the option
parsing parts that are in C down to the two pdump-related flags -sd and
-nd :-). We should discuss that. It's probably not directly related,
but I don't know that code all that well yet.
I'll help Steve Y look for dependencies, when I find a minute or five.
