the options for using bzip with FreeBSD tar are [rendhalver＠ulthwe rendhalver]$ tar --version GNU tar version 1.11.2 -j -y --bzip --bzip2 --bunzip2 Filter the archive through bzip2(1). so i guess using --bzip2 is probably the best choice but on the other hand FreeBSD has a port for gtar [rendhalver＠ulthwe rendhalver]$ gtar --version tar (GNU tar) 1.13.25 Copyright (C) 2001 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
