The whole point of packages is that they move at a different rate (more slowly hopefuly) to the core distribution thus you should be able to run XEmacs 22.0 against 21.0 packages. Thus you should install in a directory that is failry version independant. BTW re lockups, I had them a lot in b37/b38 but I haven't had any since b39 pre1. andy
