Do we need svg to use icons like the tango icon set?
What would it require to use theme icons? I mean, could we configure
in, say the tango icon set and prepare for a more general support of
themes on different platforms. Or is it just a waist?
An option is to pre-render them from some theme.
I once made my own toolbar and speedbar set out of ZETA's SVG icons
(that were under GPL):

it should still have the scripts I used (using ImageMagick and ZETA's
own rendersvg CLI tool but it should be easy to adapt to rsvg for ex.).
