FreeBSD is known to require you to fiddle with your Local.rules a bit.
gnu cp accepts -a as an alias for -dpR (don't follow symlinks,
preserve file attributes, recursively copy directories and be smart
about copying special files). -f means force unlink before copying
over a file.
There's an RCOPY definition in Local.rules for this particular one,
which for non-GNU systems seems to recommend -pR. You may find other
things you want to tweak (eg, don't *BSDs use a non-GNU tar?) If so,
tell Steve Y for inclusion in Local.rules.template.

Yup. Ask Steve Y about future plans, but the package build process
has always required GNU make. Portable Makefiles are annoying.
