No I'm not. I'm working in the XEmacs 21.5.24 release. Isn't it supposed
to work there?

No, that is _not_ the problem. We have #include <config.h>, and
--with-xft=emacs is what enables the USE_XFT define in config.h.
Mats, please post the output of "grep -i XFT src/config.h".
