The FSF Emacs change sounds like a step in the right direction to me. I used to use visible bell a lot and the FSF thing looks like an improvement to me. BTW it flashes the top-most and bottom-most lines of the screen -- I think someone said it was just the top-most. As another variant, I think that Hemlock's visible bell flashes the edges of the screen. Sort of like what FSF's Emacs does, but adding the left-most and right-most column (or two) as well. Rick
