This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.
Please describe as succinctly as possible:
- What happened.
- What you thought should have happened.
- Precisely what you were doing at the time.
Please also include any C or lisp back-traces that you may have.

Dear Bug Team!
(I reported a similar bug before against an old and unmaintained
version of XEmacs; it's still there in 21.4.8 so I am reporting it
again.)
M-x send-invisible inverts the screen to type in the password. But it
can get into a confused state where it leaves the screen permanently
inverted, or worse, partly inverted (eg white text on white
background). This tends to happen if a 'Password:' prompt is printed
in a shell buffer, causing send-invisible to trigger automatically, at
the same time as the user tries to run M-x send-invisible manually.
The white-on-white problem happened when I tried to abort entry of a
password by hitting C-c C-c in the shell buffer and C-g at the XEmacs
password prompt. Because the display became unusable afterwards I was
unable to do M-x view-lossage and see exactly what happened.
I've noticed that with my X server (on a remote machine) the display
inversion happens slowly, taking a noticeable fraction of a second.
So what may have happened is that I interrupted send-invisible with
C-g while it was restoring the old display colours, and so left them
in a half-inverted state.
I don't know whether a typical user would be as likely as me to panic
and hit C-g repeatedly when send-invisible starts triggering without
being asked. But it seems dangerous to have a command which if
interrupted makes the display unusable. Maybe send-invisible could
disable C-g while it does the display changes. Or alternatively it
might not invert the display at all, since this doesn't seem to be
necessary (certainly it serves no security purpose).
