Sounds like a configuration issue.
I think this line in my c:\CONFIG.SYS changes the line limit to 4096.
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /E:4096 /P
AFAIR from bad ugly times, this just concerned the number/size of
environment variables that could be used.
