"package-get-update-all" problem

Dear all, I tried to update my XEmacs to 21.4.8 (and subsequently to 21.1.4) but both manifest the following problem: When trying to update packages via menubar ("Tools->Packages->Add Download site" and then "Tools->Packages->Update Package Index") the FTP subprocess fails to login to the appropriate site (tried this with several). I do not experience this problem w/ my current 21.1.10 After some digging I understood that the function called when updating is "package-get-update-all" (Btw: How/where can one find which elisp function corresp. to a menubar action ?). Trying to manually call that function led to the same FTP subprocess error. Any idea how to fix this ? Trying to unpack the latest "sumo" packages in {prefix}/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages didn't seem to help... Many TIA, Florian P.S. Please Cc: me on the replies, I'm not on this mailing list. Thanks.
