Dear Ville
Thanks for this advice. The bug described in the link you sent sounds
exactly like what I am experiencing (on Gnome, Fedora 7), and the same
fix worked (i.e. changing focus to "on click" rather than follow mouse).
Unfortunately I don't think I can do without "focus follows mouse", so
it seems I have the option of switching to KDE, or having to use the
keyboard for xemacs functionality which otherwise opens a dialog.
Anyway, your efforts are much appreciated, and at least I now know
exactly where the problem is and the work-around.

From your build report it seems that this is on Fedora - if that's correct,
which Fedora version do you see this? I cannot reproduce in Fedora 8 x86_64,
using KDE.
Which desktop environment do you use? There have been some reports about
window behaviour problems, the vast majority of which have come from
GNOME/metacity users, and sadly there hasn't been much responses at all from
metacity maintainers. If you have the chance and you're currently running
GNOME, could you try with some other desktop environment, for example KDE?
Some other things to try include changing the "focus follows mouse" settings
in GNOME, see for example
