toolbar redisplay

i have 21.5.6 on linux, in my configuration i have the gutter with the buffer tabs on top, the default toolbar on the right, and the vertical scrollbar on the left when i load gnuplot-mode, to interact with a live gnuplot process, it makes a new toolbar on the left, and this causes 2 probs 1. the 3d modeline is redrawn ok, but a bit of garbage is left just outside the left edge of the modeline itself 2. the default toolbar is not redrawn, and a hollow space remains in its place --- if i move the mouse pointer over the hollow space, i can read the tooltips(?) in the minibuffer, and if i click the missing icon comes into place, and the correct action is taken both problems vanish if i iconify/deiconify the frame, or i obscure the problem area, e.g., moving another window or icon over these spots ciao
