In a separate message I'll announce the release of new XEmacs packages
(send to xemacs-announce).
The announcement contains the following code:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WARNING for MS Windows users
============================
Adrian Aichner reported serious problems with XEmacs 21.1.10 on
Windows NT using compile.el (package xemacs-base). This problem is
not solved yet. If somebody fixes this, please tell me so that I can
fix the packages. There're also some issues with the new pcl-cvs on
native Windows (setting directory-sep-char to ?/ should fix this).
Sorry, I can't delay the release any longer. If you're running
Windows, please decide yourself if you like to upgrade or not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd like to add that the problem Adrian is seeing is either specific
to 21.1.10 or to his installation - it works with a recent 21.2. So
far nobody else reported this problem or helped Adrian to track it
down. I therefore decided to release the packages now since I don't
have any fix and the last real release was in January.
I'm looking forward to your patches. I especially look forward to:
- Steve fixing the building of mew.jis.info (Steve: Just rm the info
files and try to build them again - it just doesn't work!, I handled
this manually)
- Karl's overhaul of the XEmacs build structure (patch pending)
- Gnus integration (who volunteered?)
- JED integration (Andy Piper)
- ilisp integration (Karl Hegbloom)
- the usual round of fixing
- and patches to fix the problems in compile.el and pcl-cvs on native
Windows.
I'd like to add again: Sorry, I've been to busy to get this done
during earlier. I've realized my limits and how much I like glibc
work ;-). If somebody else likes to take over my job as release
engineer of the packages or likes to share it with me, please tell me.
Thanks to all that made this release possible!
Andreas
