Speaking strictly as a user, I've only ever tried using `zap-to-char'
a few times during my life with Emacs. On each occasion I was annoyed
because I really wanted `zap-up-to-char'.
The user interface for `zap-to-char' is really broken, and I would
vote for a change to binding M-z to `zap-up-to-char', incompatible
though it is.
