As Miles Bader's .sig says, "pick 2". If Ben comes back full-time for
those six months, it's possible, but for the rest of us (developers)
it will be extremely painful.
Remember, we were much better off in terms of more or less complete
features at this time in 2000, and we had a lot more experienced
manpower.

Acceptable Unicode support does mean Unicode internally. Ben can do
it, I don't know if he will. Without Ben, I don't think it will
happen on that time schedule. (Maybe me + Aidan + Olivier + contribs
from others, but it will require extreme discipline.)
Acceptable support for both Xft and Unicode means fixing font.el and
the face code.
