gpp seems not to work for 21.4.18 mule

Hello 

That seems to be a strange problem, gpp works fine for me in xemacs
21.4.18 _no mule_ but not in the *mule* version.

I obtain an error of the sort:

I wrote already the author, but would like to know whether somebody
else has suffered the same problem?
