Ah-ha! here we go... this lib has to be installed..
libwine.so
Unfortunately, for my system, libgdi32 is present as:
] dlocate libgdi32
mingw32: /usr/i586-mingw32msvc/lib/libgdi32.a
libwine: /usr/lib/wine/libgdi32.so
Both of these would need detecting, in case someone installed mingw32
with the Win32 libraries in the path (unlike mine, thank the goddess.)
