I've been using Grigni's find-file-at-point (ffap.el),
ftp://ftp.mathcs.emory.edu/pub/mic/emacs/ffap-1.9-gen.el
(also part of xemacs-base, I believe).
Granted, it's quite old (created circa 1993), and may be considered
obsolete by now, but it still works for me in conjunction with EFS and
doing the translations I frequently come across.
