I've been inquiring it for some days but haven't found a way to handle it. It seems that the text-properties are handled differently in emacs and XEmacs (i.e. they do include the left char-side by default in XEmacs). I tried to set it not to do so, but didn't succeed ;-(. Because of that the colours do not show up right in the erc-buffer because it does an `open-line' and therefore extends the text-properties for this line. But it is a great client nonetheless. cu.
