XEmacs is a multi-platform application. We don't want to optimize, we
want to customize. _Per open device_.
We need to deal with this in a robust and extensible way because many
people already deal with XEmacs in 3-button _and_ 0-button (ie, TTY)
_simultaneously_, it's now possible (if I understand the leakage of
XEmacs-NT onto -beta correctly) to have _three_ separate UIs available
simultaneously, and pretty soon _four_ when we get the Mac port
properly integrated.
And even under X I'm often using a 3 button mouse on the original
Linux console at my office (this is a leftover, I'm not there, but
will return), a 2-button/Emulate3Buttons notebook (which will optimize
somewhat differently than a true 3 button mouse), and a TTY at the
same time from home.
Actually getting the "themes" attached to the right devices is going
to be a lot of work, but we have the low-level technology (ie,
specifiers).
