I have no objection to adding git.el to someplace appropriate (maybe a
new package vcs-tools or dvcs-tools?), but magit.el clearly needs
work, some on XEmacs syncing to GNU, some on syncing magit to XEmacs
reality.
You can put magit.el in a packages/contrib/matsl/magit package though,
making it available and cooperatively hackable to all (subject to your
permission since it's your namespace, of course -- maybe we should
create a protocol for that, such as simply creating common packages at
the packages/contrib/ leve).
