I am not sure whether this code could be sent to Emacs sources,
since
it depends on so many things of Xemacs....
I’ve modified it to work on GNU Emacs 21.2.1 on X11. Redisplay of the
characters fails there, but it may work on other platforms.
I am thinking of using that code mainly in mails, for this it is a
little inconvenient that it is restricted to a region.
Yes, perhaps, but that’s also consistent with the other functions that do
this sort of thing. See #'morse-region, #'encode-coding-region,
#'fill-region and so on.
