Hm, that's probably a yet unnoticed bug.

Maybe, I don't know about that particular case, but while at it, I'd
like to suggest adding replace-regexp-in-string there as well (roughly
equivalent to the XEmacs replace-in-string, but not quite).
What file(s) should things like these be added to? fsf-misc.el?
(Another, probably better idea, on case-by-case basis, could be to add
at least some of similar stuff into core 21.5 and (finally) get the
forward-compat package started :)
