Here's a very basic question that think needs to be addressed better in a FAQ. First a
little background so that I don't get the "newbies don't belong on the beta
list" response: I've been an XEmacs user for a couple years now, but that was on
our UNIX system at school where everything was set up by the SysAdmins. Everything worked,
so I didn't question it. Now I've got Win32 at home and work that I want (or most
of us would agree, need) XEmacs for. I can get it to compile and run (Cygwin, MSW), but I
can't figure out how to get packages to install. I've read the beta notes and
tried various configurations, to no avail. Here's what I've got: a bunch of
packages that untar to ./lisp/package-name (like c-support, xemacs-base) my Xemacs itself
is installed in /usr, so I have:
/usr/bin/xemacs@
/usr/bin/xemacs-21.0-b37.exe* (remember, this is GNU-Win32, so it's kind of funky to
anyone that only deals with windows or UNIX)
/usr/xemacs/
/usr/xemacs/bin/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs/
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs/lock/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs/site-lisp/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs-20.5-b30/
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs-20.5-b30/etc/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs-20.5-b30/i386-pc-cygwin32/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs-20.5-b30/info/ (empty)
/usr/xemacs/lib/xemacs-20.5-b30/lisp/ (empty)
And that's about. I don't know where all the support files (like the bitmaps that
make up the toolbar) ran off to (or are they compiled in?). So where do I untar the
packages to and what command do I run to install them?
Thanks in advance!
